The slutty double standard

SSH e felt ashamed and degraded. I wanted to cry with her. I can't think Of a more humiliating ins alt. First of all I am going to address a problem in our culture called â€Å"slut shaming† the cone opt women being shamed and euthanized. Slut shaming is a double standard that is highly n touchable in our society. I see it in the words that come out of my contemporaries, acquaint cues or even my friend's mouths. I see this double standard in an overwhelming amount in our tabloids, blob posts. It is also found in most TV shows, Movies and even song lyrics. One of the earliest definitions Of slut is an untidy woman. It has changed and become a sexual slur targeted towards females. This aspect that there are few words as hurtful as insinuating female promiscuity says a lot about our society. (Definition of slut shaming) Slut shaming also known as slashing, is the idea of shaming and/ or attacking a woman or a girl for being sexual, having one or more sexual partners, acknowledging sex al feelings, and/ or acting on sexual feelings. (From an article in psychology today) Furthermore, it's about the implication that if a woman has sex in which trade action society disapproves of, she should feel guilty and inferior. It is damaging not only to t he girls and women targeted, but to women in general and society as a whole. Terms that imply female romanticist include: tramp, where, sank, hoe, and many more that are not a appropriate for this forum. Terms that imply male promiscuity: leadsman, gigolo, stud, sugar daddy, womanlier, playboy, and player. One thing we should be conscious of is Term ms that imply female promiscuity consist in a negative matter rather than the male terms the at instead embodies notions of power and conquest. Feel as though a big cause of this problem is how In most media females are defined by their sexual desirability but are expected to stay sexually inexperienced, while whew n men are promiscuous it is considered clever and fortunate. T his perpetuates the Dobb el standard. In the movie Pretty Woman, Richard Greer is received as a sophisticated wealthy gentleman who just happens to be with a prostitute.Julia Roberts, the prostitute is a low class hooker who is so lucky Richard Greer actually takes an interest in her. A earldom girl attending a homeless prom and wearing appropriate cloth Eng per prom guidelines got kicked out of prom because middleware homeless dads cool d not stop staring at her. Creepy grown men should stay to supervise because they are s o responsible and obviously she was the problem. At the at the Vim's (Video Music Awards) hen Mile Cyrus performed â€Å"we can't stop† I can't believe how much the media slut shah med her for towering .

Despite of better quality FFA components and not burden by any overhead costs, Secconz still experience the huge margin from the sales price impose to them compared to sales price in Europe and USA. The supply manager from Secconz, Mr. Nelly asked for price reduction. He said that company may produce the technology by themselves if Mr. Dali did not want to reduce the price of FFA. Second major issues are related to the anti-dumping activities by China related to their product that produces over there. It was said that CC pricing products much lower than the fair value. It leads to the investigation made by the United States International Trade Commission whether to find CC was guilty or not. The effects are they might have to close down their business in China or levy with huge anti-dumping tax.

The concept of customer portfolio can significantly contribute to the firm’s efforts to retain the profitable segments of its customers because customer portfolio is a potential way to achieve enhanced customer satisfaction. According to experts, â€Å"in much the same way that we can examine a portfolio of products or brands, the importance of customers as assets and investment centers mandates a similar portfolio analysis† (Hooley, et al. 2008, p.436). This paper will explore the concept of customer portfolio management. The paper will also discuss how a company can apply this concept in its strategic management.  The term portfolio is often used by ma nagement professionals in the context of investments to represent the collection of assets owned by a person or an institution. With regard to customers, this term has a parallel meaning. A customer portfolio can be defined as â€Å"the collection of mutually exclusive customer groups that comprise a business’s entire customer base† (Buttle, 2009. p.125). In simple words, a customer portfolio encompasses different groups that make up a business’s customer base. Course Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5000 words

Course - Essay Example Most often, behaviour, poor performance, and violations of the company’s policies warrant company’s discipline. Dealing with this matter is very important on the part of the company in the development in the attitude in the workforce and also for the advantage of the company’s interest to deliver good quality of products in the increasing demand in the competing world of business. In handling certain situations regarding this, companies adhere to some of the progressive disciplinary process such as verbal caution, verbal warning, written warning, suspension the decision to leave, and termination. Jack manages a call centre for a mail order company. Frequently his reps end up staying late because call volume is heavy. These results in a lot of overtime pay that Jack would like to avoid. He’s considering reclassifying the position as exempt so he wouldn’t have to pay them overtime. He would, however, give them a small raise when he reclassifies them. Do you think Jack’s idea has merit? Discuss the pros and cons. Answer: With regard to the idea of jack that represents the company as a whole, I think it would be best to lay down some of the legal basis before pursuing to these reclassifications of job. The companies, before hiring, has probably gone through job descriptions and in reclassifying those, there must be a compliance within the Department of Labor regulations or otherwise, misclassifications of a job will be subjected to fines and penalties as a part of the consequences. There are certain conditions that must be met for an employee to be exempt job classifications like lawyers, accountants and doctors. Advantages on the part of the company on the exempt job classification is that the company is not required anymore to pay any back overtime but it is also nice that the company offers to pay something even if not being required to do so. I think it is also beneficial on the part of the employee considering that the change takes place only in the classification and not on the job so it is expected that the working hours beyond 40 hours weekly is subjected to be paid as overtime. You are the HR Manager for a retail store with 4 locations within one metropolitan area. The company's sales/marketing strategy has been to be the low cost leader (i.e. have lower prices than competitors), and therefore the compensation strategy has been to pay its store employees just above minimum wage, in the first quartile. Your boss has just told you that he is changing the strategy and now he wants to provide "optimum service", and not necessarily the lowest prices. What changes should be made in the company's compensation strategy as a result of this new direction? You expect your boss will be surprised at how much impact the new pay strategy will have on the payroll budget. What could you suggest to reduce the impact? Answer: In the situation that was given above, there were two concerns involved that have to b e dealt with, the increase in the salary and implementation of the lower cost of the products against the competitors. Lowering the price of the products at the store against the rest of the competitors is a very powerful strategy in attracting more customers that would increase the sales in a certain stores. With regard to these the company is eyeing to also increase the compensation on the part of the wage of the workforce. I think that the main objective of the compensation

Athletes and The Use of Drugs and Performance Enhancing Supplements Research Paper

Athletes and The Use of Drugs and Performance Enhancing Supplements - Research Paper Example Any substance that boosts performance by bringing about alterations in an individual’s behavior, a perception of pain and/or arousal level ought to be considered as performance-enhancing (Kissinger and Miller, 2009). This paper discusses the use of performance enhancement drugs among athletes and holds the position that anything that enhances athletic performance unnaturally should be banned from seeing that it perverts the integrity of competition. Maximizing an individual’s athletic performance abilities is not only arduous, but also a time-consuming undertaking that calls for among others, proper hydration, good nutrition, sufficient sleep, avoidance of supplements, moderate use of alcohol, and quality coaching and practice. Unluckily, in their efforts to attain peak athletic performance levels, some athletes do not rely on natural resources. They instead perceive a need for something that will facilitate and speed up the natural route to an optimal athletic performance. They, therefore, end up giving in to the urge of using performance-enhancing drugs in order to achieve their goal of emerging the very best athlete that they can possibly be. It is important to point out that nearly always, media reports on some alleged incident of the use of performance enhancement drug in the National Football League, National Hockey League, Major League Baseball, or among Olympic track-and-field high profile participants (Kissinger and Miller, 2009).

HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING - Essay Example This paper explores classroom and family environment and the influence both play in child development. Child Development and Learning 3 Dr. Maurice Elias begins his book, The Educator’s Guide to Emotional Intelligence, by summarizing what parents and community leaders have as goals of what they want children to know and be able to do when they leave school. He states, â€Å"This defines what we want our schools to teach.† (Elias, 2006). He offers the following list of what we want young people to be able to do when they leave school. ... that since â€Å"inner nature is good or neutral, rather than bad, it is best to bring it out and to encourage it rather than suppress it.† He continues, â€Å"If this essential core of the person is denied or suppressed, he gets sick, sometimes in obvious ways, sometimes immediately and sometimes later. All three of the psychologists cited in this paper predict a very negative consequence if a child does not mature Child Development and Learning 4 in the correct chronological sequence. There is consensus among these three psychologists that if a person does not have his needs met (Elias, 2006), if his essential core is denied or repressed (Maslow, 1968), if all of the aspects of what is the education of the whole child aren’t learned, if all eight of the stages aren’t successfully completed correctly and in the proper order, the person can expect to readdress what was missed as problems in the future (Erickson, 1980). There are long lists of skills and capabili ties which educators and psychologists agree children should develop. Here are three skills or personal capabilities that contribute to positive development in a wide range of life’s social roles and responsibilities: Creativity: thinking of, sharing and playing with new or unusual ideas Positive Self Image: valuing oneself and one's achievements Problem Solving: working towards a solution by analyzing a problem and forming strategies Two qualities of a family environment that contribute to development of the skills mentioned above may include the following possibilities. A family can make it a practice to introduce new opportunities of play, study or work and in that way address all three developmental issues. By carefully selecting the opportunity for creativity in thinking you will be teaching the person

Personal statement for applying master program in Finance

For applying master program in Finance - Personal Statement Example Finance is a vast subject. Just as it is revealed that human being is the crown of creation, the subject of foreign exchange is the crown of finance. Without the thorough knowledge of foreign exchange, its mercurial style of functioning, knowledge of finance, management and business world as a whole is incomplete. If we can compare the business world to an orchestra, foreign exchange is the conductor of the orchestra. All other musical instruments work in tandem as per the swing of the baton of the conductor. One who knows the subject of foreign exchange, knows how important the words like moods and swing in relation to this subject are! I like the subject of foreign exchange because I am aware of the significance of the subject in the context of global business. My interest in stock and investment goes in tandem with my fascination about the working of the foreign markets. Investments are about timing, opportunity and choices, especially for buying and selling stocks in the national as well as the international markets, one has to take split-second decisions. Often I marvel at those stock and finance wizards like Warren Buffet who take to the stock market just like fish takes to the ocean waters. They seem to function with ease, remain calm and collected, but they have a steely will and their well-versed calculations for investments, either to buy or sell stocks, are the outcome of their profound d study of the stock market and its behavior of the foreign exchange domain. This is not to say I want to follow their methods of responding to the share market and I certainly do not wish to become the second Warren Buffe t, but the first Chang Tu. That is to say, I do not like to be the follower, but the leader and prove my credentials. I have the will to grow, with the theory knowledge that I am going to acquire in university, under the able guidance of the members of the faculty. I realize that one of the

The Ideal Old Man Essay Example for Free

The Ideal Old Man Essay The initial reason for designing and constructing the Maglev vehicles was to create a car that could both carry a high number of people in a quick amount of time, and be the most cost efficient. Unfortunately for me, a high number of people would not be able to squeeze into my car. A slow, yet steady and comfortable pace made it quite obvious that my car was not in the upper echelon of the class. Instead however, it found its own identity as being ideal for an old man. Freedom rides through the countryside would be this cars specialty. In preparation for our upcoming project, we first watched a video on modern day Maglev vehicles. In the video we learned about the theories of magnets and electricity working together to form a high-speed vehicle. We learned about the futuristic possibilities of traveling from New York to Washington (without spilling your coffee) in relatively short time. The main purpose of a Maglev vehicle is for mass transportation in a quick amount of time. After we were introduced to the Maglev vehicle in the video, we proceeded to the computer lab to peruse the Internet. On the Internet, we found a variety of current Maglev vehicles. We got to check out the various speeds and performances that these particular vehicles had. In the making are some more elite types of Maglev vehicles. Perhaps someday in the near future, there will be a Maglev line running through our very own town. It was now time to plan out a strategy on the design of my car. The very first thing I sketched out was how wide the track was. A car any wider than the track would obviously not be able to run. Also, the magnets had to be a little more than an inch separated apart or else the magnets would not function properly. My completed sketch was a relatively small car that would be able to fit approximately 7-10 passengers at a time. One motor was supposed to rest on the top of the rear end and act as a propeller. Once my advisor approved my sketch, I looked for the proper materials in making my vehicle. The first thing I found was the material for my body. A light Styrofoam material was perfect for the design of my car. I cut out the proper design and also placed a shield of protection on it. Once the basic body was established, I found a base made of a hard light plastic. The plastic was easy to cut so that the contours of my base would match that of the car. Once I had my body and my base all set, I needed to install the ingredient that makes it all happen, the magnets. You could not just plug the magnets on the base in any sort of arrangement that you want. The magnets have to be placed on in rows approximately one inch apart. Also, the magnets (once they are placed on) must repel the force given off of the track so that the Maglev vehicle can float. After the magnets were carefully put on, it was time to install the motor system. The motor system consisted of one motor, two wires, and a propeller. The two wires would touch the side of the Maglev track and generate power inside the motor, which would turn the propeller. Once my motor system was installed, I was ready to test out my product on the track. Something was wrong. Placing my vehicle on the track was no different than trying to drive a car while it is elevated, the motor was humming but it wasnt moving an inch. Upon observation, I concluded that my car had too much weight pushing down on the magnetic track. The one thing I could do was to hollow out the insides of the Styrofoam, which would reduce much of the weight. Well, that didnt do too much. So I continued to chop away at the body of my car. Each crucial chop eliminated the passenger rate of my vehicle. Eventually the weight balanced out when my vehicle totaled the passenger rate of 1. 5. Saddened by the loss of passenger space, I was happy to see that my vehicle could at least move. My vehicle was now completed. All it needed was a purple colored body, and a beautiful purple baseball No. 4 for good luck. A cheap car to build, it only cost a shade over $57 million ($50 million going into labor). Measurements concluded that a mere 1. 5 passengers could jam into my cars tight surroundings. With the knowledge of my car being a one man wrecking crew I tested it on the track to see how much speed my puppy could burn. Once the results came in, it was time to label my Maglev car ideal for the old man. A respectable average speed of 4. 75, my car will not pass the board of transportations expectations. However, if the time comes for personal Maglev use in the future, people can come to either me or Q. Some controversy was brought up in aspects to the motor. A more efficient gold motor was placed on some of the other vehicles, and showed that they performed at a higher speed. Would my car have broken record speeds with this gold motor? Although my car would not have passed the expectations of the Maglev transportation theories, I did learn a lot about how electricity and magnets can work together. I learned that the Maglev is a mode of transportation for the future. A low (if not zero) pollution percentage, a Maglev would be ideal to the ozone. I found it amazing how the vehicles actually float down the track. The main problem for me was the weight factor. For some reason, I wasnt able to carry a space wide enough to fit any more than two passengers. Speculation could lead to bad magnet placement on the bottom. If I could do it again, I would design a car that distributes the weight more evenly throughout the base so I could fit more passengers. I would also look into purchasing the gold motor for higher velocity. I thought it was a fun project and I recommend it to future generations of classes.

Black Codes Essay Example for Free

Black Codes Essay The black codes were a another word for hate, and the reason I say this because the true meaning of The black codes is a law that stops the blacks from having freedom, and later on they would begin to Force them into owing or as I was taught debt. With legal prohibitions of slavery ordered by the Emancipation Proclamation, acts of state legislature, and eventually the Thirteenth Amendment, Southern states adopted new laws to regulate Black life. This was a very serious law for the blacks it was Mean and made them seem like they weren’t people just like they did the grandfather clause and I say This wasn’t a very good matter. This was like the grandfather clause the code is to watch the movement From theirs to the south some laws say black can’t hold guns and cant trade produce and they said this To want them back on the plantation. â€Å"The black codes were passed by the ex-confederate states after the civil war, the purpose of the Black codes were to keep freed slaves in a servitude state, to ensure cheap agricultural labor, and to Keep a white dominate position†. Yes I say they are right because through the research I found this was The one most popular it was well written it talks about cause it talks about what I said in the first Paragraph. Example; Arkansas passed a law prohibiting colored people to Immigrate to Arkansas Another example is Texas required railroad companies to have separate cars for Black and white people And my last example is Arkansas required separate schools for white and black People, they also made a Law called the vagrancy law which meant â€Å"Any person that a law enforcement Officer or judge deemed To be unemployed and not owning property could be arrested and charged as a Vagrancy†. -History. com Radical Republican Reconstruction efforts from 1866-1867, and passage of the Fourteenth Amendment and civil rights legislation, helped to greatly eliminate the Black codes. The Union victory in The Civil War may have given some 4 million slaves their freedom, but African Americans faced a new Onslaught of obstacles and injustices during the Reconstruction era (1865-1877). By late 1865, when the 13th Amendment officially outlawed the institution of slavery, the question of freed blacks status in the Postwar South was still very much unresolved. The Freedmen’s Bureau also helped the former slaves in the workplace. It tried to make sure that The former slaves received fair wages and freely choose their employers. The bureau created special The bureau created special Courts to settle disputes between black workers and their white Employers. It could also intervene in other cases that threatened the rights of freedmen. The South Carolina code included a contract form for black â€Å"servants† who agreed to work for white masters. The Form required that the wages and the Term of service be in writing. The contract had to be witnessed And then approved by a judge. Other Provisions of the code listed the rights and obligations of the Servant and master. Black servants had to Reside on the employer’s property, remain quiet and orderly, Work from sunup to sunset except on Sundays, and not leave the premises or receive visitors without the Master’s permission. Masters could moderately whip servants under 18 to discipline them. Whipping Older servants required a judge’s Order. Time lost due to illness would be deducted from the servant’s Wages. Servants who quit before the end date of their labor contract forfeited their wages and could be Arrested and returned to their Masters by a judge’s order. On the other hand, the law protected black Servants from being forced to do Unreasonable tasks. This is how the 1800’s were they were very mean, cruel and they never thought about anybody But there self and I think that the black codes is just a distraction from what they really and I say that They are all people the black the whites and all the other races it just took them long enough to realize That and I say that is very poorly of them because doesn’t matter what you look like or what you wear Or what your skin color is people are people and we all need to accept that. This is the reason why I Chose the black codes there is no other reason I chose it because people found out the truth that we are A Special in different ways and I like the way we get along to day without racism.

Image Segmentation: Theories and Technology

Image Segmentation: Theories and Technology Theoretical Concepts and Technical Aspects on Image Segmentation Image segmentation is a very significant area in computer vision. Image segmentation, partitions an image into multiple regions based on certain similarity constraints. This acts as the pre-processing stage in several image analysis problems like image compression, image recognition etc. Segmentation is the vital part for the successful extraction of image features and classification. Image segmentation can be defined as the partition of an image into several regions or categories. These regions can be similar in any features like color, texture, intensity etc. Every pixel in an image is assigned to any one of the categorised region. Quality of segmentation is described as pixels in the same region are similar in some characteristics whereas pixels in different regions differ in the characteristics. The segmentation process includes restoration, enhancement, and representation of the image data in the required form. Image Segmentation Techniques Image segmentation techniques can be broadly classified based on certain characteristics. Basic classifications of image segmentation techniques include local and global image segmentation techniques. The segmentation method that is concerned with segmenting specific parts or region of image is known as local image segmentation. The segmentation method that is concerned with segmenting the whole image, consisting of very large number of pixels is known as global image segmentation. The next category of image segmentation method is based on the properties of the images to be segmented. It is categorised as discontinuity detection based approach and similarity detection based approach. In discontinuity detection based approach, the segmentation is based on discontinuities in the images like edge based segmentation and similarity detection based approach is based on similarity of regions like Threshold based, Region growing, Region Splitting and Merging etc. The segmentation technique which is based on the information of the structure of required portion of the image is known as structural segmentation. Most of the segmentation methods are stochastic type, where the segmentation is completely depended upon the discrete pixel values of the image. Threshold based segmentation method is the simplest method of segmentation. The image pixels are segmented based on the intensity level. This kind of segmentation is more applicable for images where the objects are lighter than the background. This method is based on prior knowledge of the image features. There are mainly three types of threshold based segmentation. Global Thresholding: This method is done using a proper threshold value. The threshold value will be constant for the whole image. Output of the image is based on this threshold value. Variable Thresholding: In this type of segmentation method the value of threshold can vary in a single image. Multiple Thresholding: In this kind of thresholding, the output of segmentation is based on multiple threshold values. Threshold values can be computed from image histograms. In [1], threshold based level set approach based on threshold based segmentation and fast marching method [2] for medical image segmentation is proposed. To im prove the image acquisition process in computer vision, threshold based segmentation method based on entropy criteria and genetic algorithm is mentioned in [3]. Edge based segmentation method is based on the sudden change of intensity values in an image. In image processing, object boundaries are represented using edge. Edge based segmentation works by identifying the region of abrupt intensity change in an image [4]. Mainly there are two types of edge based segmentation methods. Grey Histogram Technique: In this method the foreground is separated from the background based on a threshold value. Choosing the correct threshold value creates a problem. Gradient Based Method: Gradient can be defined as the first derivate of the image near the edge. Higher change in the intensity values between two regions is depicted by the high value of gradient magnitude. In order to perform multi scale image segmentation an edge based auto threshold generating method is introduced in [5]. Another method for edge detection using variance filter is introduced in [6]. Theory based segmentation method uses derivatives from several fields. Several types of this kind of algorithm includes, Clustering based segmentation: In this method clusters are formed based on the similarity criteria (size, color, texture etc). Methods include k-means clustering, fuzzy clustering, hard clustering etc [7]. Artificial Neural Network: In this method the neuron represents the pixels and segmentation is performed with the help of trained images. Methods using Wavelet Decomposition and Self Organization Map of artificial neural networks are proposed [8]. Region based segmentation [13] methods are similar to edge based segmentation. The advantage of region based segmentation upon edge based is that, the former is more immune to noise. In this method, the region of an image is either splitted or merged into areas based on similarity. Region Growing: the collection of pixels is grouped into a region with similar properties [9]. Region Splitting and Merging: Here the image is further subdivided into several regions based on some pre-defined criteria. Graph cut image segmentation is a very significant technique of segmentation under region based segmentation. Several techniques of region growing methods include techniques that combine edge and region based information using morphological watershed algorithms [10]. In this method, initially a noise filter along with magnitude gradient is used and pre segmentation is performed through region merging. A region similarity graph is then produced and final segmentation is performed using Multi Class Normalized Cut. This technique overpowers the Spectral clustering method. As the method mentioned is a time consuming task, new method is presented [11]. For the purpose of detecting objects sharply, least square method is used for region based segmentation. Here the local information is also considered by calculating the weight matrix. This segmentation technique is optimum and fast. Graph-cut Image Segmentation As mentioned in the above methods, the techniques either use the region information or use the boundary information [12]. This results in limited segmentation. In graph cut segmentation optimal result for energy function is computed and segmentation is based on that result. Basics of Graph-Cut An undirected graph, set of vertices and a set of edges, are considered. Vertex represents the pixels in an image and edges denote the connection between the adjacent pixels. There exists a source and sink node which holds the foreground and background respectively. In graph cut method, each edge is assigned with a non-negative weight which coins the term cost. [12] A graph cut is actually the partitioning of the edge set into several component sets. Graph cut method can be either min cut or max cut. Min cut can be defined as cut through minimum cost and max cut can be defined as the cut through maximum cost. That is after the cut performed, the vertices are divided into two sets, source and sink, which holds the foreground and background pixels respectively. Implementing graph cut method assigns value 1 to the pixels in the foreground and 0 to the pixels in the background. This is achieved through minimum graph cut method by minimizing the energy function. Types of Graph Cut Based Algorithm The graph cut based segmentation can be mainly divided into three types. They are Speed-up based graph cut, Interactive based graph cut and Shape prior based graph cut. The speed up based graph cut method is used to improve the speed of the graph cut method through parallel computing. Earlier implementation was based on CUDA code [14]. The best way to speed up the computational time is to reduce the number of graph nodes while reconstructing the graph [15] [16]. Another method used for speed up based graph cut method is clustering based graph cut. Clustering based graph cut is based on reducing the number of nodes by grouping similar pixels into a single cluster and treating a cluster as a node. Watershed based method is another important speed up based approach where, gradient images are considered and the concept of catchment basins are used [15]. Interactive based graph cut plays a very important role in segmentation of natural images and the situations where the segmentation requires high precision. In this kind of methods the seed points are selected and then segmentation is performed based on these points. Several methods are performed using the concept of bounding box, where the centre portion of the bounding box corresponds to the object and histogram is constructed. The area outside the bounding box is considered as the background region [17] [18]. Certain interactive segmentation is performed by choosing both the foreground and background region together. Iterative interactive graph cut segmentation is also performed. Shape prior based graph cut segmentation finds its importance where the image to be segmented is affected by noise, diffuse edge, obstructed objects etc. In this kind of segmentation, the shape information is included as the energy function [19] [20]. Case Study In this chapter a graph based image segmentation method is explained. The efficient graph based image segmentation method initially considers the input image as a graph. The pixel values are considered as the nodes of the graph and edge is drawn between the adjacent pixels. The edge weight is represented by the difference between adjacent pixels. Initially, the considered edge set is sorted in the increasing order of edge weight. The segmentation process actually segments the entire vertices set into disjoint sets based on some similarity function. The vertex set is initially randomly partitioned into several component sets. This is considered as the initial segmentation. The vertices producing the largest edge weight is considered first. Let the two vertices be v1 and v2. Then check whether these two vertices belong to disjoint component sets in the previous segmentation (initial segmentation). If the two vertices are in disjoint component sets then compare the edge weight connecting these vertices to the internal difference of these two component sets. If the weight of the edge connecting these vertices is smaller when compared to the internal difference, then these two components are merged. Otherwise, it is neglected. On continuing these steps till the smallest edge weight, a final segmentation of the input image is obtained. Expected Outcome In the proposed chapter, an exhaustive review on image segmentation such as threshold based, edge based, graph based and region based segmentation will be included. The various approaches employed for graph cut segmentation include interactive graph cut, efficient graph cut, shape based graph cut and speed up based graph cut. The chapter would conclude with results on a list of benchmark images. At the enclosure of the chapter, open research problems will be discussed.

campaigns :: essays research papers

For our campaign finance homework, I looked up Senator Maria Cantwell. For her 2004 campaign, Cantwell had raised $1,794,461. Cantwell had self-financed 61.7% of the total amount. That is approximately $10,331,911. Over ten million dollars from her own pocket! The next greatest contribution was from individual contributions. This made up 32.3% of the total, rounding up to $5,406,386. The remaining contributions were from PAC and from the category, â€Å"Other.† I was surprised to learn that several of the top contributors were Microsoft Corp., Boeing, Dreamworks SKG, Puget Sound Energy, and the MoneyTree. Even the University of Washington had donated $13,600! Wow, that’s great.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Under the â€Å"Political Parties† category, the Republicans raised $889,752,453, and the Democrats raised $816,976,491 during the 2004 elections. The top five States for Republican contributions were: 1) California 2) Texas 3) Florida 4) New York 5) Michigan. The top five States for Democratic Party contributions were: 1) California 2) New York 3) Massachusetts 4) Florida 5) Texas. The highest industry contributions for the Republican party came from the Retired. The top five contributors were: Goldman Sachs, Hastert for Congress Cmte, Friends of Roy Blunt, Lewis for Congress Cmte, and the Federated Investors Inc. The highest industry contributions for the Democratic party came from Lawyers/Law Firms. The top five contributors were: John Kerry for President, Friends of Schumer, Goldman Sachs, Friends for Harry Reid, and Time Warner. The University of California came in sixth.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  This was the first time that I had ever looked into this kind of information. I was very interested in learning about how much money goes into campaigns, and where the money is coming from. I was very surprised to find out that Senators or other members of congress spend so much money out of their own pocket just for a campaign--- just to become a member of Congress! Over ten-million dollars! (I didn’t even know that they were that wealthy!) Of her top contributors, I was also surprised to find companies like Puget Sound Energy, or the MoneyTree. I didn’t think that energy companies get to involved in politics. And the MoneyTree? Has it really become that big and great of an organization that they’re donating thousands of dollars to campaigns?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  I was also very interested in comparing the financial side of the campaigns between Republicans and Democrats. I’m Republican so I was glad to learn that the Republicans had raised over $70 million dollars more than the Democrats.

The Picture of Dorian Gray Essay: The Soul of Dorian -- The Picture of

The Picture of Dorian Gray "The soul is a terrible reality. It can be bought and sold. It can be poisoned or made perfect. There's a soul in each one of us. I know it." This is a statement made by Dorian Gray to his best friend, Lord Henry, a few hours after he realizes that his behavior of the last eighteen years has been absolutely terrible. First I shall explain the way Dorian Gray lost his ability to be good and how he found it again eighteen years later. After Sybil Vane's death, the young lad was first seized by terrible remorse. After abandoning her in the theatre with most cruel words, he reconsidered his action during the night and was ready to forgive her and marry her, as he had promised. So the news of her suicide was of course quite an unpleasant shock to him. Unfortunately Lord Henry was there to influence him with his corrupt and selfish personality. He taught... ...the soul exists. The soul is a "terrible reality", because it is stronger than any physical phenomenon of belief or disbelief. Whatever you do, it always remains in the depth of your heart and you will always depend on it, as you depend on your reality. If you poison it by neglect or ignorance, you try to sell it for what seems a cheap and easy price, but you cannot sell and separate from a reality that you are a part of; the unavoidable price of "buying" it back is very, very, high. Aztec Warrior Essay -- History, Aztec Military Training

According to the legend, the Aztecs, who referred to themselves as the Mexica, spent years wandering through central Mexico in search of a homeland. In AD 1325, the Aztecs founded their new capital Tenochtitlan (Moctezuma, 9). Years later, the Aztecs started to build their renowned empire. The Aztec Empire was made up of the Triple Alliance: Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan (Moctezuma, 55). Agriculture was the basis of the Aztec’s economy, but conquest and warfare lead to economic expansion and the accumulation of tributes from conquered towns (Moctezuma, 21). War was vital, for it maintained and expanded the economic and religious basis (Moctezuma, 55). The Aztec warriors were the driving force of much of the Aztec empires success because of their training, weaponry, wardress, sacrificing, and combat. ‘Deadly Unna?’ By Phillip Gwynne Essay

‘Deadly Unna?’ was the first novel of the famous Australian author, Phillip Gwynne, published in 1998. The fascinating drama novel expresses the inter-racial friendship between two teenage boys, Gary â€Å"Blacky† Black and â€Å"Dumby† Red. The book focuses on many complications the adolescence face, for example racism, favouritism, relationships, families, exclusion and more. ‘Deadly Unna?’ is set in the Port and Peninsula of South Australia, the ‘Goonyas’ (white Australians) are based in the Port and the ‘Nungas’ (the Aboriginals) are located on the Peninsula. The reason for this separation is to emphasise the racial tension between the white Australians and the Aboriginals that the author is trying to present. The story is told from the perspective of the main character, ‘Blacky’. As the story is being told by a white Australian you would be led to believe that it is going to be a very biased story but in this case it is quite the opposite situation. Gary Black is one of the few, if not the only, characters from the Port that truly understands the similarity that the two races acquire which enables the readr to see Aboriginals in a different light from the generalised/sterotypical image common in Australia. Gary â€Å"Blacky† Black is the major character in this novel, as the basis of the book revolves around him and his experiences and complications he faces in his youthful life. Blacky is more academic then he is sport orientated, though saying this he does play football. Blacky has a rather large family consisting of eight children, a stay-at-home mother and a hindering father. Blacky gets along with his siblings though they do have the occasional conflict, he is proud of his mother but unfortunately has a weak relationship with his father because of a previous controversy. Though Dumby Red did not physically appear very often throughout the book,  one particular incident involving Dumby Red arose great racial contention. Dumby Red was a very enthusiastic, optimistic and extremely self-assertive character. He was responsible for Blacky’s change of mind towards the Aboriginals, he was the one the made Blacky see the Aboriginals for who they really are, not who they are said to be. ‘Pickles’ is Blacky’s best friend, he in highly intolerable with his disgusting habits and his lack of general hygiene and know one will ever know why Blacky’s relationship with him is so strong. ‘Arks’ is Blacky’s over enthusiastic and encouraging football coach, he was a great influence on Blacky’s football performance in the grand final. Clarence is Dumby Red’s sister, at one point in the novel Blacky was rather fond of her though he was warned by Darcy that he must be careful who he associates himself with. Darcy is Blackys next door neighbour, the elderly man is very king to young Blacky and is always full of good advice, Blacky enjoys spending time with him and hearing about his fascinating life. The book is separated into two sections, winter and summer. Winter being the football season and summer the off season. The beginning of the novel focuses on football and Blacky’s attempt to be the hero of his team. It briefly touches on relationship and racial difficulties though the real complications reach their climax towards summer. Horrific crimes occur making the plot very interesting, people are being blamed, hearts are being broken and choices are having to be made. The Port’s football team make the grand final, disaster occurs on a boat, family relationships are tested, there is dispute at the football awards, the death of a well loved character provokes outrage throughout the community, true friendship is being questioned and Blacky follows his heart to do what is right. The purpose/aim of ‘Deadly Unna?’ is to highlight the seriousness of racism that takes place in the country we live in, as well as focusing on many concerns that adolescences face today. This is very effective as the book is intended for young adults meaning they are able to relate and compare their  lives to the ones created in the book. The use of Australian ‘slang’ (for example youse, ya and g’day) in the novel was also very powerful as it strengthened the realism of the characters. Many people nowadays do speak with ‘slang’ and it is the stereotypical way the true Australians communicate. A definite strength of the book is that it is written in first person, the use of Blacky’s thoughts and feelings throughout allows insight into the life he lives during the dramas that occur. The fact that Blacky was not bias in his feeling towards the Aborigines also assisted in allowing the reader to understand both sides of the racial conflict. The only minor weaknesses in the novel were the friendship between Blacky and Dumby Red. Though is does discus how good of ‘mates’ they were, it did not go into great detail of the complexities they face because of their inter-racial relationship. The other flaw in the novel was the misleading blurb, the blurb deceives the reader to think that the story line will be revolved around Blacky and Dumby Red facing the community whereas it focus on the much broader community facing the truth about the Aborigines. Overall the book was thoroughly enjoyable and should be recommended to other teenagers. The humour the novel possesses mixed in with the moving theme of racism made the book a worthwhile read. As James Bryce, a diplomat, historian and politician, said â€Å"The worth of the book is measured by what you can carry away from it†.

Automobile and Scientific Inventions Essay

There ar many scientific inventions in our world. nearly of these inventions atomic number 18 even in the houses that we confront in. There are inventions such as computing machine games, the microwave oven, and even the Moto vehicle. These inventions extend to our lives much easier and it destroys the world as well. Every topic and every bingle gets harmed some way by these inventions. lets start off with this. The computer is entertaining tho yet wicked to our look. Children of our world love being on the computer. But they shouldnt love it also much, because if you stare and are alike un telephone circuited to the computer for far too long, your eyes begin to hurt and you go by out pecker sighted. This is so because your brain decides that you dont need to be able to fix things far away and only assure thing that are close to you. The computer is one of the best inventions because it helps you with a peck of things. Number one is work. It whollyows us to remed y all our important document and keeps them in a private file. The microwave oven. This is a machine that heats thing. Its great in homes for when you want to heat foods. About 1/3 of the world has one. Ill assign this microwave oven heats your foods but also destroys your health. As the microwave heats up, it sends of radiation inside and out. Your foods become polluted with radiation and if youre too close to it you as well. Who likes eating frigidity food? I mean we all like food nice and hot, so we should stick out a microwave oven in our houses. I personally cant go without a microwave. It one of my preferent scientific inventions. One of the most utilise scientific inventions would be the motor vehicle. instanter this is brilliant The motor vehicle or should I say, automobiles are very greenness to our modern day lives. EVERYBODY has one. Well if you urinate a license of course. Now cars are a complex piece of machinery. Its like youre basically holding a fully loaded gun. just about every day there is an accident that occurs. We may not see it, but it happens. flock get greatly hurt or even die from car accidents. On the positive side, cars do have its advantages. People use cars to transport themselves around. It takes you from one place to another.Instead of having to walk, you drive. Another thing about cars, it pollutes the air badly. This is so because cars give off a great get by of smoke sometimes. This affects the greenhouse gases and even worse, the ozone layer. If the air is completely contaminated people with die. People that believe these machines are not true for our lives are somewhat correct but wrong. I believe that it has made our lives rattling easy and less complex. I valuate it has done wonders to the world and we should all appreciate the advantage we get from this.

Emily Dickinson – Theme of Love

Emily Dickinson – Theme of Love

During a visit to Philadelphia in 1854, Reverend Charles Wadsworth whos regarded as an deep inspiration of poems was fulfilled by Dickinson. Also, Dickinson isolated herself and emphasized her isolation by dressing in white. Her seclusion is present as a motif in some love poems. The death of her father, and nephew, led to an absolute seclusion and these deaths were probably the reason good for the darker tone in her later poetry.Biographers have tried to find the source of this passion logical and intensity that is found in Emily Dickinson’s poems but there is an enigma when it comes to her love life.Emily Dickinson is considered as among the crucial and well known african American poets.I decided to analyse some poems in which Emily Dickinson wrote about love from these different stranding points. My social Life had stood – a Loaded Gun† A patriarchal society, such as the one Emily Dickinson lived in, had very controlled social norms logical and rules. One as pect of it Dickinson described in her poem â€Å"My Life had stood – a Loaded Gun†. It centers around a masculine figure, a â€Å"Master† and the speaker, â€Å"a Loaded Gun†.

She dwelt 55 years softly. However, the last stanza of this long poem brings this romantic side of it into question. Critics claim that the whole poem is a mere delusion of the lyrical I, merely a self assurance that it is through a union of power that the master and the servant best can be brought to their full potential. â€Å"Though I than He – may longer liveHe longer must – than I – good For I have but the power to kill, Without–the power to die—â€Å" However, with these few lines the poet seems to realize that a life through servitude does not bring one fulfillment, but only the mere illusion of it. More than once, Dickinson uses the expression â€Å"Master† to refer to males in her poetry.William Austin Dickinson is a individuals who is best referred to as a Celebrity.Furthermore, the woman in try this poem is objectified even more than just being rendered through an inanimate object. This can be seen in the second third and fo urth lines of the second stanza, where the poetess describes how it is to be speaking â€Å"for Him†. The irony is subtle here, and very well masked, for the delightful sentiment that emerges throughout the whole poem, especially first stanza number four, is strong enough to keep in shadow the less eminent features. What Dickinson describes as speaking for is in fact being spoken through.

Todd and Higginson released a different group of Dickinsons poetry after worth publishing the very first quantity in 1890.The question of homosexuality has been studied in this context, but it is perhaps the rejection of female traits for the reason that a life of submission to a dominant animalistic great hunter is valued to be nobler than the embracing of one’s true self. Last, but not least, this long poem can also represent the idea of a woman as a poet, one that possesses knowledge and great power which make her destructive. Critic Adrienne Rich believes that creation by a woman is aggression, logical and that it is both â€Å"the power to kill† as well as being punishable. The union of big gun with the hunter embodies the danger of identifying and taking hold of [the woman’s] forces, not least that in so doing she risks defining herself – and being defined – as aggressive, is unwomanly (â€Å"and now we hunt the Doe†), logical and is potentially lethal.Emily received a wonderful education. The first two lines of the first stanza clearly set the terms on which this marriage is built. She little rose to His Requirement – dropt The Playthings of Her Life† The role of the man is very well represented by the capitalization on the single word â€Å"His†. This can not only be interpreted as respect for the husband, but it best can be related to the poem mentioned earlier â€Å"My Life had stood – a Loaded Gun† where the lyrical I relates to her lover as â€Å"Master†. This image of a husband as an omnipotent pillar of power transcends the worldly abilities of men, logical and turns into a God of the household and it is to the needs and wishes of this noble Lord that a wife needs to â€Å"rise†.

She had a life that is very reclusive. For Dickinson the poet, the free play of language and imagination was primary. She believed that her father’s tragedy was his inability to play, and she once wrote, â€Å"Blessed be those who play, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. † worth Something in her recoiled from adult womanhood and made her wish she could remain a child. In a famous letter to her friend Susan Huntington Gilbert Dickinson (who later getting married Emily’s brother, William Austin), she anticipated with a mixture of fascination and dread the prospect of well being consumed by the blazing sun of a husband’s demands.A guy cannot be too careful in the selection of his enemies. Her true true self – her thoughts and opinions remain unmentioned, uncared for by the husband.Dickinson uses the sea to illustrate her point. The ideas and beliefs of a wife are not only hidden deep within the unexplored sea, but they are consider also mixed, cov ered with weeds. A man caching a clam must first go through the barrier, in try this case society’s limitation of a woman’s freedom, in order to get to the treasure that is dark inside – the pearl.

Actually, keep in mind that teens are in reality still slow growing it is common to test out pursuits to find out what sticks.Foregoing the possible greatest joys of marriage, Emily Dickinson chose to pursue â€Å"the poetic calling that enabled her to set what her own â€Å"Requirement† and to retain her â€Å"Playthings† as essential tools of her art. † (Leiter 174) â€Å"If you were coming in the fall. † This is a love poem in which Dickinson writes about her loved one who is far away from her. The distance between her and her lover is not an obstacle unlooked for her feelings, and she is yearning to meet with him.Shes now generally deemed to become an important American poet, although dickinsons reputation for a poet was contested.A season becomes a year in the second stanza. However, even this is not a problem for she will simply â€Å"wind the months in little balls and put them each in separate drawers† (bartleby. om) and make it easier for what her to bare the length of time and just wait until it is time for them to meet. She makes it easier for herself to wait for this moment, by diminishing a last year into months.

When each book reached a edit, their final ritual was designed to exchange better off reading it aloud to another, usually a single page awakens, Kidder stated. She would toss away her life â€Å"like a rind,†(bartleby. com) as something that is not important. While the first four stanzas start with â€Å"If† which implies something hypothetical logical and something that is only a possibility the final stanza begins with â€Å"But now,† which is a return to reality and the young poet is not sure how long she must wait for her lover now. Furthermore, she is not sure if they will meet at all, or is he even coming.1 19th-century Irish book educates women curious regarding the exchange of their upcoming spouse to have a little lump of red lead and place it under their pillow on Midsummers Eve.What if I say I shall logical not wait? This poem is about separation as well.Lovers are here apart because of others, and not their own will. The â€Å"I† of this p oem is very eager to see her lover and she will complete break free by forse if needed from those who are keeping her away from him. It seems as if she is threatening to escape and asking her lover what will happen if how she manages to escape and come to him.

However, this 5 billion-worth of demand was neverthe little in its uphold year when JP Morgan opted to death its supposed-to-be-7- geezerhood family with IBM. With that, they had to drop doubly for the be of re institution. They had to re do all their systems, staffs, operating procedures, organisational structure, and incorporated strategies. Fortunately, JP Morgan was open to pro contain on the $1 billion investing of savings bankOne in its own information system. Finally, in touching from an outsourcing deal to a backsourced environment, JP Morgan had to deal with organizational respite. perpl go forthy had to reengineer their processes and chip in huge re ca stigatements in their systems and operations.Organizational responsibilities were redefined, and caution entirely turn how things were done. Outsourcing Vs Backsourcing When JP Morgan prematurely end their contract with IBM, the chief executive officer said, We believe managing our own engineering science alkali is surpass for the long produce and success of our companionship, as well as our shareholders. This would only them time, effort, and manpower, darn change management to focus on on the companys strengths and cell nucleus operations. On the other guide, it may be more expedient to insource specialize processes that are blowy to outsource like search and Development. Moreover, as in the part of JP Morgan, it is conk out to insource because the company can truly provide offend function at lower cost in-house, with the facilities of the acquired bank Bank One readily usable for JP Morgans use. Recommendations Outsourcing is a treble contact sword. It could each benefit a company or it can alike cost that company a lot. Thus, many things deal to be subscribe toed in choosing amidst outsourcing and the more traditional in-sourcing. therefore, the event of JP Morgan followers and Co. could take hold deceased on a bankrupt way if they just take a shit and fail on legitimate aspects as follows The negotiations with IBM should amaze contained real footing which could by chance moderate the fortunes multiform in their contract.First, the contract negotiations should reserve had sensitive the footing and limitations of some(prenominal) parties. They should take for undertake that the process or technology should fit or, at the very least, work legislate in hand with the businesss breathing processes. There should as well as be a precondition touching check up on points to allow the affinity to change or end. JP Morgan result and Co. should get by that contracts be in possession of divided up elements of two risk and reward. great risks entail more rewards on the button why JP Morgan should strike a proportion surrounded by these two. It should commit varied abstract tools in localise to reckon alternatives more accurately. This, in turn, leave alone support the company make up ones mind what projects to execute and which deals to enter. For poser in the human face of JP Morgan, short outsourcing contracts benefit the company fracture than long-run contracts. In some cases, it could be a near scuffle of short-term and long-term contracts as mulish by the disposition of the contract that forget provide the surpass rewards for the company. Essentially, it is a publication of universe able to mightily reckon and calculate alternatives that volition fail the outflank results. - Finally, the company should learn how to comfort its intimately authorized asset, the people. It should demand been more bonnie and open with the employees about matters alter the situation and condition of the company.Being the or so important asset of the company, kind capital or employees should fork over been more concern in instances like this. As a summary, the adjacent are the key points to be phoneed from the JP Morgan and cut through experience 1. For fiscal intermediaries in picky, outsourcing is not recommended. Outsourcing was a motion for many industries, specially in late 80s until the archaean 90s. Thi s provides organizations the chance to stand on their core competencies by having their IT functions off shored.Much of the stories with regard to this business movement were written on the earlier years of the deal, stories on the execution years however, delay scarce. A company has to consider how it go forth at long last require its operations in front startle in the outsourcing bandwagon. financial intermediaries in particular would be better off without outsourcing as the latter adversely affects cognitive operation of the company, in particular its qualification to pioneer and be efficient which takes a damage on the nitty-gritty of the organizations performance. 2.Backsourcing is not for everyone. In a company where the up-to-the-minute data are the just about crucial, it is recommended for them to keep their IT functions in house, especially in the case of JPMC where they had all necessary infrastructures ready for their IT functions. departmental functions once outsource will incur twice the expenses if brought back once again to the company. Backsourcing is not a one size fits all solution or else it depends on the companys uncommitted resources that determines its talent to bring in the IT functions again. 3. talk over shorter dealsShorter deals labour flexibility which proves to be the most important cipher driveing(p) in the JPMC situation. Albeit more pricey, this provides companies less expensive solutions and exit strategies in case deals go awry. 4. unceasingly remember the encourage of employees The outsourcing and insourcing juggling brought experience the morale of many of the employees. What the company failed to listen was the fact that this represent frequently of the intangible asset cost incurred. 5. call to calculate alternatives carefully. Organizations often sink or trim the kindred amid cost and part of service. The birth is a simplex one. If you want to spot your IT service, provide the highest fibre service and the highest look products, it mainly be more. If the closing is IT costs too much, it is comparatively aboveboard to reduce IT costs, but commensurately you too reduce service. (Hirschiem, 1998) high expectations, particularly in IT lead to high costs. More than just sideline the incumbent trends in the industry, determine what to do with departmental functions involve provision and advisement alternatives carefully.
